Happy Birthday to Spilled Ink!
We are so bad about remembering what should be important dates... like for instance it took me probably 2 years to remember that Tony's birthday is the 15th and not the 17th (no, that's Jackie's birthday). And if you ask Tony what my birthday is, after 15 years he would probably tell you it's the 15th (no, it's the 5th). And we randomly decided to change our wedding anniversary to an entirely different date than what it was, so that doesn't help things...
Well guess what we realized? Spilled Ink Press turned 4 two days ago. Yep. Our baby is ready for preschool! So in honor of her birthday, here is a sneak peak at the "new" designs for our daily grind line of cards (goodbye blue saturation and "cutout" filter, hello clean and crisp photographs with a long shadow).
You'd buy this if you saw it in the store, wouldn't you? At the very least, you'd pick it up- and then you'd snort a little bit when you read it. I bet you. Don't make a four year old cry now, just say yes.

Do NOT try this at home...
2 things to know for this story to make sense:
1. I've been told that it's super easy to make cake with a simple can of pop. For some magical reason, it's supposed to work- just pop and the mix. Chemistry, magic, voodoo, whatever it is, it works. See, I'm not making this up, it's on the internet and everything.
2. We're in the process of revamping our Daily Grind line of greeting cards. We've got a card that makes a joke comparing cupcakes for your class to shots at a bar (it's a birthday card, it's very funny, just trust me on this one). You may or may not realize, but we take our own photographs that appear on our cards. It's just another reason why we're 'special' (read "poor"). Fair warning, you may end up on one of our cards (yes, those are mine).
So enter tonights unfolding events...
Recipe for disaster:
1 cake mix
1 can of Dr. Pepper
1/2 bag of mini marshmallows
1 over confident, slightly stressed out, self employed invitation designer
Mix ingredients... then go ahead and mix some more, it's just a carbonated beverage and some cake mix, what can be the harm in that, right?
Bake for 19 minutes. Pause the DVR and rush to the kitchen when you smell something similar to burning chocolate and an overshook Dr. Pepper.
And THIS is what it will look like:

The weird thing is when you try to pull it out of the cup cake tray, it kind of deflates on itself, like an exhausted little guy that just couldn't find the will to live. >pooooof<
I should have known better when I walked into the pantry and realized I only had 4 cupcake cups, that was a sign to just walk away... just walk away.
Tony has already added to his to-do list for tomorrow "go to Jewel and get cupcakes".

New Daily Grind Christmas Cards
We just added some new Christmas Cards from the Daily Grind line to our Etsy shop. Our take on holiday cheer might not be so....cheery. But hey, home for the holidays isn't always all presents and egg nog.
